No. 23 Razorbacks drop SEC opener

Tom Collen's No. 23 Razorbacks opened SEC play with a 50-47 loss Thursday night at Auburn.

— Tyrese Tanner scored 10 of her 15 points in a second-half spurt as Auburn built a double-digit lead, then held on to beat cold-shooting No. 23 Arkansas 50-47 in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams.

The Tigers (12-2) won their ninth straight game while handing the Razorbacks (12-2) their first road loss this season and snapping their nine-game winning streak. Auburn's 12 wins are one shy of last year's total.

Neither team shot well, with Arkansas shooting just 27.6 percent from the field (16 of 58) and Auburn 32.8 percent (21 of 64).

After Auburn used a 19-6 run fueled by Tanner to pull ahead 43-33, Arkansas got to 48-47 with 3:23 left on a layup by Quistelle Williams, who had 13 points.

But the Razorbacks could not score again, with the Tigers holding Arkansas' leading scorer Sarah Watkins to nine points.

Peyton Davis had 17 rebounds for Auburn.
