Saturday recruiting updates

Arkansas hired Charlie Partridge as its defensive coach on Dec. 15, 2012.

Defensive lineman Monty Nelson, 6-3, 310, 5.2 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Plantation, Florida said Friday night's in-home visit with Hog defensive line coach Charlie Partridge went great. He said his mother really likes Partridge and believes he's a good man.

Partridge also impressed his grandmother that lives in the Bahamas over the phone.

Nelson was set to officially visit Arkansas Jan. 18 but that could be pushed back to the 25th. He said he should know around Tuesday or so. Whichever date it is he said he'll probably commit to the Hogs during his visit. He added he might wait until signing day to commit.

Nelson, who reports bench pressing about 385 pounds and squatting 495, said he was given the low down on the Walton College of Business and how it's one of the top business schools in the nation. Partridge graduated from Plantation high school.

Arkansas running back coach Joel Thomas and Partridge will do an in-home with Plantation, (Fla.) South running back Alex Collins at 1 p.m.central today. Collins will make an official visit Jan. 25.

Safety and former Wisconsin commitment Tyler Foreman of Encino, (Calif). Crespi said there has been contact with Arkansas.

As reported on Wednesday, linebacker Skai Moore of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. University school said he did indeed meet with Arkansas linebacker coach Randy Shannon and defensive line coach Charlie Partridge on Friday. He was committed to Rutgers but has reopened his recruiting. Rated a 3 star plus recruit by Tom Lemming.

LSU commitment and athlete Jeryl Brazil is entertaining Arkansas for an in-home at this time.

More on linebacker Skai Moore, he said in a text message that he hasn't officially set up a visit to Arkansas. He said he's going to take things slow and talk with his family and see what happens.

Below is what appeared in the Sept. 16 edition of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette about Brazil.

Arkansas' football and track programs have one of the fastest athletes in the nation, Jeryl Brazil wanting to make an official visit to Arkansas.

Brazil, 5-10 1/2, 190, 4.29 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Loranger, Louisiana orally committed to LSU in late January. He ran a laser time of 4.32 seconds in the 40 yard dash at the Opening , an event that featured the top 150 players in the nation at Nike headquarters in Oregon in July.

In addition to Arkansas, Brazil said he will take official visits LSU, Ole Miss and Alabama.

"They seem like they have a lot to offer with their track and football programs," said Brazil, who's being recruited by defensive end coach Steve Caldwell. "It seems like a pretty good school."

Brazil posted some of the best times in the country in track with laser times of 10.35 seconds in the 100 meters and 20.81 in the 200. He said he notified LSU of his intentions to visit other schools.

"I told them how I feel about it," Brazil said. "It's my decision and what's best for me I have to make the best decision whether if everybody else likes it or not i have to see what's best for me."

Razorback receiver and quarterback Brandon Mitchell and Brazil are good friends.

"We pretty much grew up together," Brazil said. "He texts me all the time telling me about it and how he likes it. he just tells me he really likes and how the coaches really care."

Arkansas defensive coordinator Chris Ash is doing the in-home with Brazil. Brazil tweeted a photo of Ash in the living room.

1:40 update

Brazil's in-home with Ash was a get to know one another type meeting while also giving Brazil a chance to learn more about the new staff and their plans for the program. He said he's considering an official to Arkansas. He said Ash will get back with him on dates.

Brazil said he has dates set for officials to Alabama, Ole Miss and LSU. He said he and Arkansas QB Brandon Mitchell are cousins. His mother liked what Ash had to say.

He would play cornerback if he attended Arkansas, said Brazil.

Running back Alex Collins said the visit with Partridge and Thomas went well and was told how he would fit into the system and the style of offense they'll run and so his mother could get comfortable with the coaches. He said the coaches answered his mom's questions and she thought they were very noce and told her Arkansas had his two possible majors, criminal justice and broadcasting. He said Thomas and Partridge made sure to hit on all the key points in order to leave no doubt in her mind.

Collins was very impressed with Thomas and thinks he wants him to excel on and off the field.

Highly regarded cornerback Lamar Robbins of Miami Southridge said he and Arkansas have mutual interest in one another.

Arkansas has one Wise in defensive end Deatrich Wise but the Hogs could be pursuing his younger brother, Daniel, who's a 2014 prospect, in the future.
