Arkansas already has three oral commitments in the 2014 class and the Hogs are hoping to add Bentonville junior tight end Jack Kraus to the fold after offering him a scholarship this week.
Kraus, 6-5, 240, 4.9 seconds in the 40 yard dash, was a key reason why the Tigers made to the Class 7A state title game in December. He was previously offered by Illinois and Utah State before the Hogs extended one. (Junior highlights click here)
"You look at him in his shoulder, he can get a lot bigger," said Bentonville Coach Barry Lunny. "Coach (Bret) Bielema called me Sunday and said they have watched film along with coach Chaney and they loved it."
Because Bielema was tied up with recruiting, Kraus didn't learn of the offer until Tuesday when Lunney called the head Hog and gave the phone over to him.
"He told me I was good looking kid and I had a lot of potential at the tight end spot," Kraus said. "He wanted to offer me a full ride I just didn't know what to say because I was so amazed."
Kraus said he's prepared hard and now sees the rewards.
"It feels like all the hard work I've done in the offseason in football in the past three years has finally paid off," Kraus said. "It's given me a goal to work towards and work harder in this offseason. It just really feels good."
Oregon, Alabama, LSU and Arkansas State are also showing interest in Kraus. While honored with the offer from the Hogs, Kraus said he'll likely hold off on any decision.
"They have a great program," Kraus said. "I've always been interested in being a Razorback but I really want to look at some other schools as well before I decide to commit. Who knows? Maybe something will trigger me until then I just really want to take my time."
