Wednesday recruiting tidbits
Arkansas tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr. visited Osceola ATH Korliss Marshall to inform him of his offer Wednesday.
Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema and running backs coach Joel Thomas will make an in-home visit with running back Denzell Evans 3 o'clock today. A Houston commitment, Evans, 5-11, 210, 4.5 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Bellaire, Texas is expected to visit the Hogs this weekend.
His teammate, offensive lineman Dwayne Johnson, who visited Arkansas over the weekend, is also expected to receive an -in-home visit from the Hogs today.
Alabama assistant coaches Mike Groh and Burton Burns are visiting North Little Rock high school today to see running back Altee Tenpenny.
Arkansas tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr. is visiting Jonesboro high school today to check on 2014 prospects, defensive lineman Chuks Ota and quarterback D.J. Anderson along with freshman athlete Denzel Mitchell. Memphis and Ole Miss are expected to be at the school today.
Auburn will visit Pine Bluff high school on Thursday to check on several underclassmen. Arkansas visit the school on Friday.
Late to post but receiver Eddie Jackson of Lauderdale Lakes, Fla. committed to Alabama this morning.
Fort Lauderdale, (Fla.) University high school coach Roger Harriott said linebacker Skai Moore decided on Tuesday that he would not visit Arkansas this weekend.
Junior running back Madre London, 6-1, 196 of Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas high school said his coach believes Arkansas could be offering him soon.
London, who played his freshman season at Bryant, picked up an offer from Rutgers today and also has offers from Cincinnati and South Carolina.
Western Kentucky has contacted Little Rock Central Coach Scooter Register about athlete A.J. Tucker.
Osceola running back Korliss Marshall has been offered by Arkansas.
Arkansas basketball signee and forward Bobby Portis of Little Rock Hall scored 24 points against Russellville Tuesday night. He needs 32 points to surpass the 1,000 point mark in his high school career. The Warriors play Fort Smith Southside at home on Friday.
Marshall, 6-0, 190, 4.4 seconds in the 40 yard dash, rushed 129 times for 1,711 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior. As a sophomore, Marshall was offered by Arkansas State after rushing 137 times for 973 yards and 12 touchdowns.
In March of 2011, Coach Russell Leggett said the following about Marshall in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
"I’ve been in the Osceola school district for 16 years and he’s the most gifted athlete I’ve seen come through here," Leggett said. "Since I’ve been here I’ve seen Bo Mosley, Harold James, Chris Littleton. Jonathan Adams was a senior when I got here. As far as natural ability, I would put him right at the top of all of them."
Arkansas is looking at Marshall as an athlete. Could play several positions.
Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema will visit Greenwood high school to see Hog commitment and athlete Drew Morgan on Thursday.
Arkansas linebacker coach Randy Shannon will visit offensive lineman Denver Kirkland at his school on Thursday. The Miami Washington high school recruit visited the Hogs over the weekend.
Osceola Coach Russell Leggett said Hog tight end coach Barry Lunney Jr. visited the school today and called Bielema and put Marshall on the phone and he was told of the offer from the Hogs. Leggett said Marshall was like 'really' when he was told of the offer but was all smiles.
Marshall and his mother will arrive in Fayetteville on Friday for an official visit.
Leggett said Marshall hasn't committed yet.
Marshall said he wants to get up to Arkansas and look around while on his visit before making any kind of a commitment. Very excited and emotional about the offer.
Charleston sophomore quarterback Ty Storey said Arkansas is suppose to come by his school this week.
Arkansas basketball assistant coach Matt Zimmerman is watching swingman Elgin Cook, 6-6 of Northwest Florida State College play Pensacola State College in Pensacola.
Running back Denzel Evans of Bellaire, Texas high school said he wasn't offered during the in-home visit with Bielema and running back coach Joel Thomas this afternoon but expects to receive one during his official visit. He said he'll call home and talk things over and commit to the Hogs if offered. He's a Houston commitment.
