Alexander halfway towards proving point

North Little Rock CB Kavin Alexander is trying to prove to college recruiters he can cover tall receivers.

— North Little Rock cornerback Kavin Alexander wanted to prove his ability to cover the tall receivers at The Opening at Nike Headquarters during the two days of 7-on-7 competition. After Tuesday’s session, he feels good but not totally satisfied.

“I think I’ve done well,” Alexander said. “My coach has given us as a couple schemes to where I go up against bigger receivers and I’m holding them. No one’s gone deep on me yet. I don't know how I’ll matchup with them on fade routes but on short routes I’m covering all of them.”

Playing for Apocalypse, Alexander helped his team to a perfect 3-0 record for the day.

“It’s amazing our team came together when we didn’t want to play and we feed off of each other’s energy and the offense was picking us up,” Alexander said. “When the offense picked up the defense gave back to them to picked up the offense.”

Alexander, 5-9, 185, 4.27 seconds in the 40 yard dash, had 43 tackles, two interceptions and a blocked punt last year. He’s drawing interest from Arkansas, LSU, Auburn, Georgia Tech and others.

In the last game of the night, Alexander batted down a ball at the goal line to preserve a win over the Land Sharks that appeared on ESPNU.

“I got the game winning stop,” said Alexander, who’s cousins with former Hog running back Darren McFadden. “I ripped the ball out from them on a dive. It’s amazing we feed off each other and got 3-0. “

Alexander isn’t ready to say mission accomplish until he shows well during Wednesday’s 7-on-7 competition.

"I would say half way accomplished because I still have tomorrow,” Alexander said. “Everybody isn’t fresh. Everybody was fresh the first game but second and third game people aren’t fresh. When everybody is fresh and I’m matched up against them and we’re fully 100 percent then the mission will be accomplished.”
