Arkansas scores 12, avoids elimination

— Arkansas beat Bryant 12-3 Sunday to earn a spot as one of the last two teams in the Manhattan (Kan.) Regional.

Jacob Mahan and Brett McAfee combined to drive in six runs in the win. The Razorbacks scored three runs in the opening inning, four runs in the third inning and added another five in the seventh.

Joe Serrano scored the first run of the game and finished 3-for-3 with a walk and scored two runs. Tyler Spoon drove in two runs and Dominic Ficociello, Brian Anderson, Eric Fisher and Michael Gunn each added a RBI.

Senior left-hander Randall Fant started the game on the mound for Arkansas. Fant (6-1) earned the win by tossing 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out three batters.

Kevin McAvoy started on the mound for Bryant (45-18-1). McAvoy (7-3) lasted just three innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits.

Arkansas (39-21) will return to the diamond to play Kansas State at 7 p.m. Tyler Wright (1-1, 0.00 ERA) will get the nod for the Razorbacks and the Wildcats will counter with Blake McFadden (6-2, 4.04 ERA).

Arkansas has to beat Kansas State twice, once Sunday and again on Monday, to advance to the Super Regionals. The Wildcats are one win away from advancing.
