Offer has Harris ready to visit

Cornerback Al Harris Jr. plans an Arkansas visit.

A recent scholarship offer from Arkansas has cornerback Al Harris Jr. looking to visit Fayetteville.

"I definitely want to visit Arkansas," Harris said.

Harris, 5-11, 170, 4.41 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Fort Lauderdale, (Fla) St. Thomas Aquinas recently received a scholarship offer from Arkansas and now stands at about 15, including Florida State, South Carolina and UCLA. Defensive line coach Charlie Partridge is his lead recruiter.

"He's a great guy," said Harris in Sunday's Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. "He has a great energy about him, an aura about him. He's very upbeat and excited. I like that he has a strong personality."

Harris' father played defensive back in the NFL for 14 years, including Philadelphia and Green Bay. His knowledge of the game is advanced.

"He's taught me so much on how to play and how to be the person I want to be on and off the field," Harris said. "He helps me out a lot. He gives me good advice. I learn so much from him."

Harris wants an aggressive defensive scheme.

"A lot of the recruiters say they want a corner that can play press," he said. "I feel like that that's my forte. I want to play man-to-man."

He also participates in track and field and has best times of 11.1 seconds in the 100 meters, 22.9 in the 200 and 50 in the 400. Harris has a 3.1 grade point average and is looking to study business or finance and eventually own his sports related business.

Harris hopes to have a decision in the next few months.

"End of summer, I definitely want to make my decision kind of early," Harris said.
