Morris, Daniel sign pro deals

Jacob Morris signed with the White Sox on Tuesday.

— Arkansas outfielder Jacob Morris has signed with the Chicago White Sox, forgoing his final season of eligibility with the Razorbacks.

Morris was drafted in the 24th round of the MLB Draft last weekend. He is the third player from Arkansas' 2013 roster to sign a pro contract this week, joining pitchers Barrett Astin (Milwaukee Brewers) and Trent Daniel (Colorado Rockies).

"Just signed with the Chicago White Sox!" Morris posted on his Twitter account Tuesday. "Excited for the future. Not bad for my first job ever."

Morris played in 41 games for the Razorbacks this season, starting 29 times in center field. The Coppell, Texas native struggled offensively, batting .160 with 14 RBIs, but routinely made highlight worthy catches and throws on defense.

After transferring from Arizona State in 2010, Morris played three seasons for the Razorbacks. He started 49 games in 2012 for Arkansas' College World Series team.

Daniel, a left-handed pitcher, signed earlier Tuesday with the Colorado Rockies. The Bryant native just completed his redshirt senior season with the Razorbacks and was drafted in the 17th round Saturday.

"Unreal feeling when a childhood dream comes true," Daniel posted on his Twitter account. "Just signed my Pro contract with the Colorado Rockies. Anxious to see what my next chapter in life brings. Thanks to everyone who has been there for me and made this possible!"

Daniel recorded a 2.55 earned run average in 22 appearances this season. He had previously been drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 23rd round of the 2011 draft.
