Reports link Little Rock to bowl game

The Arkansas Razorbacks take the field before playing Ole Miss at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

— Little Rock is one of nine cities being considered by smaller conferences looking to create more bowl games for the 2014 postseason, according to a report by ESPN.

The American Athletic Conference, Conference USA, Mid-American, Mountain West and Sun Belt are exploring new bowls because they feel "locked out" by bigger conferences, according to the report. Other locations under consideration are Miami; Orlando; Boca Raton, Fla.; Montgomery, Ala.; Los Angeles, Ireland; Dubai and either Toronto or Nassau, the Bahamas.

The Associated Press reported last month the Sun Belt Conference was working on bringing a bowl game to Little Rock with Conference USA providing a possible opponent. Last February, War Memorial Stadium Commission chairman Kevin Crass said talks of a bowl game coming to Little Rock were in the preliminary stages.

War Memorial Stadium, built in 1949, hosts two University of Arkansas football games annually as part of an agreement that runs through 2016. Arkansas State and Central Arkansas have also used the facility in recent years, though neither is scheduled to play there next season.
