Hendrix to visit Hogs today

Safety Payton Hendrix visited Arkansas on Monday.

Arkansas will host safety Payton Hendrix for a visit today and a future trip back to Fayetteville is a possibility.

"Official visit, I’m not sure right now," Hendrix said of a future visit to Fayetteville. "But it could be a possibility. They're a big time program in a big time conference."

Hendrix, 6-3, 194 pounds of Dallas Bishop Dunne High School reports having 19 scholarship offers, including Arkansas, Nebraska, Washington, North Carolina and Arizona State.

Running backs coach Joel Thomas is his lead recruiter but as with all defensive prospects defensive coordinator Chris Ash is also involved.

"I've been talking to coach Ash lately," Hendrix said. "He's just basically trying to get me to come down and check out things."

He visited Texas June 13 and will make a trip to Washington for a visit on Wednesday. Honesty from a coaching staff is vital.

"I just want the coaching staff to be completely honest with me and straight forward with me and about everything," said Hendrix, who's cousins with Arkansas basketball prospect Keaton Miles. "That's all I can ask for at the end of the day."

Hendrix has a 3.4 grade point average and is looking at finance or business. He said a career in accounting or the oil and gas business has crossed his mind.

When talking to college coaches, Hendrix said they mention his size and nasty attitude.

"First thing coaches say to me is that I’m real physical because I like to hit and I have a lot of range on the field," Hendrix said. "I can cover a lot of ground. That's really appealing to coaches."
