Watkins earns SEC sixth player of the year
NWA Media/MICHAEL WOODS --01/06/2013-- University of Arkansas forward Sarah Watkins shoots a free throw during Sunday afternoon's game at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville.
FAYETTEVILLE Arkansas senior Sarah Watkins was named the Southeastern Conference's co-sixth player of the year on Tuesday.
Watkins averaged 12.9 points per game for the Razorbacks (18-11) during the regular season. She shared the honor with Missouri's Morgan Eye and is the second Arkansas player to earn the award alongside Charity Ford in 2009.
After starting every game as a sophomore and junior, Watkins moved to the bench while struggling with foul trouble earlier this season. She is one of 17 Razorbacks with at least 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds, and ranks second in program history with 200 career blocks.
Arkansas will face Florida in the SEC Tournament in Duluth, Ga. on Thursday at 11 a.m.
