Friend has Newell interested in Hogs

In Sunday's Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Peyton Newell, a highly regarded defensive end, talked how a close friend has him interested in Arkansas.
Newell, 6-2, 270 pounds , 4.79 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Hiawatha, Kansas doesn't have a firm date to visit the Hogs but is hoping to make it down after hearing Kayla Parker, who's from Fayetteville but lives in Kansas, talk well of the Razorbacks.
"As of right now, I think we're going to try make a visit to Georgia," said Newell, who's being recruited by defensive line coach Charlie Partridge. "That's the only one as of now."
Newell reports having 29 scholarship offers, including Arkansas , South Carolina, Georgia , Nebraska, UCLA and Northwestern. The Bulldogs have his interest because father and grandfather, Billy Howard lived in Atlanta.
"My grandpa was a wrestler for the WWE," Newell said. "So he traveled around a lot and never really lived in one specific area. He lived like Charlotte, North Carolina , Austin, Texas . Atlanta. He said it's really pretty down there so."
He maxed out at 400 pounds on the bench press on Monday but it's his 700 pound squat he recorded last summer that some people question.
"I'm going to ask my dad to record it this year because no one believes that." Newell said.
His above average strength is a product hard work.
"My dad saw the potential before anyone else," Newell said. "He had me lifting in the basement in the 6th, 7th grade. There were nights that we were down there until midnight lifting."
The chance to play in the premier conference is tempting.
"When you have an opportunity to play in the SEC so you shouldn't really give that opportunity up," Newell said. "Just where the SEC can put you as far as reaching your full potential for the next level."
Relationships are a key for Newell when deciding on his future school.
" I've been fortunate to have schools offer me from all over the country and distance isn't going to be a factor for me," Newell said. "I want to go where I'm most comfortable and who I've built the closet relationship to. Simple stuff like that. Facilities are all the same They're all out doing each other and renewing them very few years . So that's really not that big of a deal to me. "
