Gibson named to UA board of trustees

— Gov. Mike Beebe on Wednesday named Charles "Cliff" Gibson III to the University of Arkansas board of trustees.

Gibson, 58 of Monticello, will replace Mike Akin, also of Monticello, in a term that expires March 1, 2023, Beebe's office said in a statement.

Gibson, who established the Gibson & Keith law firm in 1981, has served as Drew County attorney for the past 12 years, Beebe said. He has also been appointed four times as a special justice to the state Supreme Court, according to a biography on his law firm's website.

"Cliff's appointment helps ensure a dependable voice on the Board for the U of A campuses in South Arkansas," Beebe said. "His sound judgment and calm demeanor will serve the entire system of schools well in the coming years."

Gibson attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello and Mississippi State University and holds a law degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Bowen School of Law.
