NCAA bans hashtags from football fields

Arkansas has added a Twitter hashtag to its field at Razorback Stadium for the last two spring football games.

— Twitter hashtags like the one Arkansas painted on the field of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium for last month's spring game have been outlawed by the NCAA.

The decision was announced Wednesday, curbing a practice becoming increasingly popular as athletic programs embrace the social networking website. Arkansas has painted "#GOHOGS" on its field for each of the last two spring football games.

According to the NCAA, only NCAA logos, conference logos and team or university logos and names can be displayed on the fields. Schools that have sold naming rights for their fields are allowed to display the name, but no corporate logos. Corporate logos can be used for bowl games.

As part of the new rule, website URLs cannot be displayed on fields either.

One other interesting measure passed by the NCAA on Wednesday deals with uniform numerals, stating they must clearly contrast with the jersey color. Arkansas unveiled new uniforms made by Nike last year in which the numerals faded into the jersey color.
