Avid fans startle offensive lineman

Offensive lineman Bill Weber attended Arkansas' spring game.

Arkansas fans are well known for their knowledge of recruits and offensive lineman Bill Weber found that out while visiting for the Hogs' Red-White spring game.

Weber, 6-5, 310, 5.6 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Coppell, Texas is drawing interest from Arkansas, Missouri, Texas Tech, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Kansas State and others. He attended the game with best friend and teammate Solomon Thomas, who's one of the nation's top defensive end prospects.

"The fans know their stuff," Weber said. "Are you Bill Weber? Then you must be big Solomon. We had at least five fans come up to us talking about how we're going to do in football next year. Some of the them were more interested in the recruits than they were in the actually game."

One fan in particular stood out to him.

"He knew our stats, he knew everything about us and he lives in Northern Arkansas," Weber said. "I was surprised by how much he knew about Texas football. "

Arkansas' offensive line coach Sam Pittman's unit impressed Weber despite having several new faces and being inexperienced.

"I was more impressed with the O-line in the spring game and how ready they were," Weber said. "It's didn't look like a spring game it looked like they were ready to go."

Weber is planning to attend numerous camps this summer, including Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State and Texas Tech. He and Pittman had a short conversation.

"He talked about my tape a little bit and said he liked it," Weber said. "I hope he comes down and watches me. I think he will be down here but I'm not sure when though."

Weber, whose uncle, Robin Weber played tight end for Notre Dame and had the winning touchdown reception in the 1973 Sugar Bowl to win the national championship, plans to return in the fall.

"I'm really interested in seeing that field on an actual game day and packed," he said. "I was very impressed with the size of the stadium. I want to come up for a game."
