California DL set to visit Arkansas

Defensive lineman Matt Dickerson plans a August 1 to Arkansas.

Defensive lineman Matt Dickerson was a regular visitor to the state of Arkansas before he received a scholarship offer from the Razorbacks. His next trip will be to check out the Hogs.

"I'll get out there to visit August first, probably with my dad," said Dickerson, whose father, Clarence is a Gurdon native and still has numerous family members in the state. "I try to back there once a year . I've been going back there for like nine years straight."

Dickerson, 6-5, 275, 4.9 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of San Mateo, California, Junipero Serra has 12 scholarship offers, including Arkansas, Arizona, UCLA, Washington and California. He's visited Washington, Colorado, UCLA and Arizona.

"I might try and make it out to Nebraska probably during the summer ," Dickerson said. "I have to take my time because the visits can get real expensive. Unfortunately, the official visits don't start until the fall."

He's honored to received an offer from the Hogs and have the chance to play in the SEC.

"It's one of the best conferences in America," Dickerson said. "It's just a blessing a when a top school like Arkansas offers you. They see that I can play at the top level."

During the years of visiting family in Arkansas, Dickerson has taken a liking to hunting and fishing.

"I love fishing for catfish, " Dickerson said.

His friends in California find Dickerson's love of hunting odd.

"They'll be like you eat squirrels down there and I'm like "Yeah it's good"," he said.

Fishing is California doesn't compare to what he fins in the Natural State.

"We'll probably get one or two bites and probably catch one and it will probably be like a three pounder," Dickerson said. "But when we always go back down to Arkansas we catch like 15 pounders, 10 pounders and we get bucket full of fish. It doesn't really compare to Arkansas."

Dickerson, who has about a 3.2 grade point average, isn't in a hurry to make his decision.

"I'm going to see how it plays out," Dickerson said. "Hopefully I'll have an idea of where I want to go come this season. Say I commit somewhere, I don't think the college I commit to is going to be too happy if I visit somewhere else. If it takes that long, I'll take my visits."
