Former Texas running back commitment Daniel Gresham is planning to visit Arkansas for several reasons, including Coach Bret Bielema's reputation of highly successful running backs.
"That's one part that really has me interested," Gresham said.
Gresham, 5-10, 228, 4.5 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Fort Worth, (Texas) All Saints Episcopal is now looking hard at Arkansas, Tennessee, Miami, Florida State, Alabama, Louisville, Ole Miss and Auburn. He said Bielema and his coach Aaron Beck had a recent discussion about him.
"I guess they were talking about the position they think I can play," Gresham said. "Coach Beck was telling him he thought I could still be a running back. That's what most of the offers that I have are for, that's power back and also a feature back. "
Bielema's most recent star at running back was Montee Ball, who as a senior at Wisconsin was a first team All American and Doak Walker Award winner. Gresham, who rushed 86 times for 979 yards and 18 touchdowns in 10 games as a junior, is similar to Ball in size.
"Coach was telling me had a guy name Montee Ball," Gresham said. "I obviously knew who Montee Ball was. He was saying the only thing with me would be weight management. I'm 228 right now, he said that wouldn't be a problem. He said if I came in and continued to work and I would have a chance to be that featured guy like Montee was."
Gresham plans to hit the road this summer to check out several schools with his parents.
" I'm going to take a bunch of visits this summer," Gresham said. "Find a school that has the major that I'm interested in and found out what that is before I go out and make sure they have that. Make sure they have that, the academic piece for sure the fan base. That's really important, you can't have a weak fan base and expect to go far."
A school that has a chance to compete for championships will be a focus of Gresham as he sorts out schools.
"I want that bar to be extremely high and a place that really feels like it's home," Gresham said. "Where I can bond with my fellow teammates and the coaching staff."
Gresham, who has a 3.3 grade point average, said business and communication are two majors that interest him but has his sights beyond that.
"I want to go into law," he said. "That's one thing I'm really interested in."
He and his teammate, offensive lineman Demetrius Knox, who also reopened his recruiting after being committed to Texas, have discussed playing at the same school.
"If we do end up at the same place that's all fine and dandy," Gresham said. "That would be awesome but If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen."
