Jones makes statement at combine

Camden Fairview cornerback Keyondre Jones tuned in the fastest 40 time at the Arkansas Football Combine.

Camden Fairview cornerback Keyondre Jones helped in getting word out about himself after turning in the fastest handheld time, 4.21 seconds in the 40 yard dash at the Arkansas Football Combine on Saturday.

“I usually run like a 4.35,” Jones said. “They said I got a 4.21 and I was like, 'Wow'. My coach always tells me to compete. I got to the line and lay it all down.”

Jones, 6-1, 170 pounds recorded 29 tackles, a tackles for loss, 1 pass deflection and 1 forced fumble for the 14-0 Class 5A state champions. The Cardinals are known to have an excellent offseason program and Coach Buck James said Jones has gotten stronger.

"He's sort of physically matured," James said. "He's always had a lot of talent but I think he's really gone through the roof the last six months to a year. We started him out at safety and moved him to corner and we think we've found him a home for him there. We can see him getting better every day in practice."

Arkansas tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr. visited the school on Tuesday for the second time. Jones is also seeing interest from Ole Miss, and Arkansas State.

“I have got to work a lot more of getting out of my pedal,” said Jones, who also ran a 4.29 on Saturday. “But I'm developing that too. I'm pretty good coverage wise deep in the field and sideline tackles."

Character isn't an issue with Jones.

"He's a great kid, he comes from a great family," James said. "He's well grounded He's a humble young man It's a lot of fun to see the progression he's going through."

Jones' speed was also on display in the 100 meters in track too.

“I ran 10.73 and that's the fastest I ran,” Jones said.
