Dudley-Gordon a hit with schools, adds offers

Arkansas is one of safety Marquese Dudley-Gordon's latest offers.

Safety Marquese Dudley-Gordon credits his one play in his school's May 18 spring game for helping him reel in several new scholarship offers, including Arkansas.

"He was running a reverse and I read it," said Dudley Gordon, who reports Hog defensive line coach Charlie Partridge attending the spring game. "I ran up to him and actually squared up and he tried to shake me and I just blew him up and wrapped up."

Dudley-Gordon, 6-0, 180 pounds of Weston, (Fla.) Cypress Bay had about eight offers before the game and then added other offers from Bowling Green, Florida State, Wisconsin and Minnesota afterward. He attributes his experience at other positions for his instincts at safety.

"I play a little bit of running back too, so maybe that's why look at things like that," he said.

He said he got a taste of Razorback football when he lived on the Arkansas of Texarkana and watched several games on TV while there for a year in 2006. He knows incoming freshman running back Alex Collins and has plans to reach out to gain more knowledge about the Hogs.

Being a student of the game and an eye on the small details gives him an edge.

"I look at everything as a safety from O-linemen to how a receiver sets his feet and how he runs their routes," Dudley-Gordon said. "When it's going to be a run most receivers don't run full speed to block a person like a full sprint. They kind of just loaf off the ball. I know it's kind of simple but I know in college it's going to be a lot different."

Dudley-Gordon didn't participate in track and field this year but as a sophomore he recorded a time of 10.78 seconds in the 100 meters and 50.6 in the 400. Education support at a school is high on his list of wants.

"For any college to be the right school, my education," Dudley-Gordon said. "That's the biggest thing I don't want to sit on the bench because not being eligible. I want to be eligible. I want to have the tutor, I want that person to help me out during college because I know it's going to be hard. I basically want all the help I need."
