Dean latest in-state junior offered by Hogs

Fort Smith Northside defender Daytrieon Dean (25) attempts a tackle against Little Rock Parkview's Caelon Harden during a 2012 game.

Defensive lineman Daytrieon Dean of Fort Smith Northside attended Arkansas’ game against Auburn on Saturday and left with a scholarship offer from the Hogs.

“He and his mom met with Coach (Bret) Bielema for about 20-30 minutes and they offered him,” said Northside Coach Mike Falluer.

Dean, 6-3, 245 pounds helped his cause when he attended Arkansas' three day camp June 10-12 and impressed the Razorbacks. He has recorded 43 tackles, 4 sacks and 2 tackles for loss this season. Video highlights CLICK HERE

“He’s a had a great year,” Falluer said. “He plays hard he gets off blocks and runs to the football. You can tell against bigger people he has to get stronger.”

While there’s room for improvement, Dean make it tough on the opponents despite suffering from a sprained ankle for much of the season.

“There aren't too many people blocking him with success this year,” Falluer said.

Dean and the team will go through an offseason program focused on improving flexibility.

“We’re going to do a lot of work with not just with him but with a lot of the kids this winter on their flexibility in their hips,” Falluer said. “I think if he gets a little more flexibility he’s going to even get faster.”

Falluer said Dean has an excellent work ethic and can motor for a big guy.

“I would say right now he’s 5.0 flat somewhere in that area,” said Falluer of Dean’s 40 yard dash time. “Maybe a smidgen underneath that. He can run.”

Dean also camped to Ole Miss.

“He has a lot of people calling him,” Falluer said. “Ole Miss has offered him.”

He said Dean isn’t one to be vocal.

“If you don’t see him, you don’t even know he’s there,” Falluer said.
