Visits nothing to worry about, according to Pruitt
On Thursday, Arkansas offensive line commitment Jovan Pruitt announced on Twitter he would take his five allotted official visits.
Pruitt, 6-6, 295, 5.1 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Dallas Bishop Dunne picked the Hogs over 24 other scholarship offers, including ones from Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor, Ole Miss and Arizona State. He said doesn’t want Razorback coaches or fans to think he’s backing out of his pledge.
“I don’t want that,” Pruitt said. “I want to stay committed to Arkansas. I’m a man of my word. That’s the type of person I am. I don’t want them or the fans to think that I can’t be trusted. That’s just not me.”
Pruitt, who has graded out at 85 percent while having 22 pancake blocks this season, plans to officially visit Arkansas, Oklahoma, Baylor and Florida while the fifth trip is yet to be decided.
He called offensive line coach Sam Pittman and running backs coach Joel Thomas Thursday afternoon.
“I just called the coaches and told them there’s nothing to be worried about because there’s nothing to really be worried about,” Pruitt said. “I just want to take this time and experience it. It’s a once in a lifetime experience. Most people don’t get to experience some of these things I don’t want to waste this opportunity. I have to be smart with this.”
He talked about how Pittman and Thomas reacted.
“They’re fine with it as along as I keep my word,” Pruitt said. “That’s pretty much it.”
Pruitt, who visited the Hogs for the Texas A&M game, said the recent struggles had no impact on his decision to visit other schools.
“That’s not what influenced it,” Pruitt said. “I know what they can do. I know what they’re capable of. They just haven’t played up to their potential like they usually do If they scored against A&M they should be able to score against those other teams. That wasn’t it. I was just taking some time to think about using this opportunity wisely.”
What could sway him to change his commitment?
“All I have to say is only time will tell,” he said. “ As far as now, I’m going to keep my word.”
