Beeks, Oliver split SEC award
Arkansas starter Jalen Beeks delivers a pitch during the third inning against South Alabama Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville.
FAYETTEVILLE Arkansas pitchers Jalen Beeks and Chris Oliver were named co-SEC pitchers of the week on Monday.
The Razorbacks duo shared the award with LSU's Austin Nola. Beeks pitched a complete game and Oliver pitched eight shutout innings in wins over No. 2 South Carolina over the weekend.
Beeks allowed four hits and worked around four errors in a 4-1 win Friday night. The left-hander struck out a career-high nine batters.
Oliver also had a career-high strikeout total Saturday night, displaying a sharp breaking ball to fan 10 Gamecocks in a 7-0 win. Like Beeks, Oliver allowed only four hits in the game.
Arkansas allowed only three runs in the series against South Carolina. Trey Killian dropped a 2-1 decision despite pitching eight innings in the series opener against the Gamecocks.
