Capps looking forward to Arkansas visit

Star City defensive tackle Austin Capps has offers from Arkansas and Louisville.

Arkansas will host numerous in-state sophomores for visits on Saturday and the first one to get an offer from the Hogs, offensive and defensive linemen Austin Capps will be one of them.

Capps, 6-31/2, 307, 5.1 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Star City received his offer after a dominating performance at Arkansas’ camp last June. He gave a rundown on what he wants to experience on the trip. Video highlights CLICK HERE

“I would just like to get to know the staff better,” said Capps, who helped lead the Bulldogs to a 9-4 record. “They said they were going to show me the facility and get to watch a practice which would be really cool.”

He was named an Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Super Sophomore after recording 103 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 recovered fumble and 1 blocked punt last year. He likes what he’s heard from defensive line coach Rory Segrest.

“He said he likes hunting and fishing, so I started liking him there,” said Capps laughing.

Capps’ strength showed well in recent testing at the school by recording a 350 pounds bench press, 325 power clean, 515 dead lift and 580 squat. He plans to visit Alabama, Florida State, Auburn and Ole Miss during the summer.

Whether or not he’ll play on defense or offense isn’t a big concern.

“I'd really like to play defense, but I'll be fine with either side,” said Capps, whose lead recruiter is tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr.
