Grable qualifies for NCAA event finals

Arkansas' Katherine Grable competes in the floor exercise during the NCAA Gymnastics Regional Saturday, April 5, 2014, in Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville.

— Katherine Grable finished with a score of 39.60 and was second all-around at the NCAA Championships on Friday in Birmingham, Ala.

Grable, a senior, advanced to the individual event finals Sunday in the vault and floor. Grable scored 9.95 in the vault and floor events Friday and 9.85 in the bars and beam competitions.

“It was really fun to get back out and compete for a national championship,” Grable said. “On the beam, I got caught up a little bit and tried to do too much in my routine instead of just focusing and doing what in know how to do. I am really proud to represent the Razorbacks and I am looking forward to the NCAA event finals on Sunday.”

Arkansas freshman Amanda Wellick finished 20th all-around Friday. Grable was the SEC gymnast of the year this season and Wellick was the league's freshman of the year.
