Summer baseball update

Bonfield continues to swing hot bat

Arkansas signee Luke Bonfield will play for the Razorbacks instead of turning pro.

Eight games into his stint with the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks of the Futures League, Luke Bonfield continues to swing a hot bat.

The week before last, he debuted with a 4-for-4, three home run game and hit well over .500 in three games. His five games this past week proved that was not a fluke.

Bonfield has hit safely in all eight games and went 11-for-21 (.524) over the past seven days, which actually dropped his batting average with the Sharks to .559.

He has not homered since his debut, but he piled up four doubles in his last five games to give him a slugging percentage of 1.000.

Impressively, the incoming freshman has struck out only four times, while drawing four walks, scoring seven runs and collecting 14 RBI.
