Morgan shines during open practice

Arkansas receiver Drew Morgan runs after a catch during the Red-White Game on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville.

— Drew Morgan stood out during situational drills in Arkansas' open practice Saturday.

Morgan had 5 catches for 115 yards before the scrimmage as the Razorbacks worked on specific plays for down and distance. Morgan's highlights included a diving 45-yard catch and touchdown receptions of 25 and 17 yards.

Morgan beat cornerback Jared Collins on a post route for the first touchdown. The second score came on a good pass from Brandon Allen between safety Rohan Gaines and cornerback Carroll Washington in the corner of the end zone.

All of Morgan's receptions came working with the first-team offense, which was quarterbacked by Brandon Allen. The redshirt junior looked good in situational work and completed 2 of 5 passes for 46 yards during an abbreviated scrimmage.

Allen was also under center for a 2-minute drill at the end of scrimmage. He completed a pair of passes for 27 yards after a 3-yard run by Korliss Marshall, but the drive stalled after a pair of incomplete passes and a Jamichael Winston sack.

Austin Allen competed 4 of 7 passes during the scrimmage for 42 yards. The backup quarterback's highlight of the day was an on-the-spot deep ball for 48 yards to Damon Mitchell.

Rafe Peavey struggled during situational drills, under-throwing receivers on three separate occasions. Peavey was 6-for-6 during the scrimmage for 31 yards and also had a pair of runs totaling 13 yards.

Arkansas worked more on its pass game than its rush game Saturday. Running back Alex Collins was held out of the scrimmage with a groin injury that head coach Bret Bielema said wasn't serious.

Jonathan Williams was taken out after "tweaking" his hamstring, Bielema said, during situational work. Williams was hit hard by linebacker Braylon Mitchell and was rolled up by safety Alan Turner.

Marshall had 2 carries for 4 yards during the scrimmage after a couple of 7-yard runs in situational drills. Kody Walker, Patrick Arinze and Denzel Evans had fumbles during situational work.

Freshman linebacker Randy Ramsey was in on several tackles during situational drills. He also had a fumble recovery and recorded two called sacks. Quarterbacks couldn't be tackled to the ground.
