James McCann is one of seven players that will be promoted by the Detroit Tigers when MLB active rosters expand to 40 players Monday, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus announced Sunday.

The former Arkansas catcher will join Detroit Tuesday and become the Tigers' third catcher on the roster.

In 109 games at triple-A Toledo this season, McCann is batting .295 with 34 doubles, 7 home runs and 54 RBIs.

He has hit well against left-handed pitchers, batting .342. The time with the big league club will give McCann an opportunity to audition for a spot on the team next season.
