Gaines, Washington suspended for Texas Bowl

Arkansas safety Rohan Gaines returns an interception for a touchdown during a game against Ole Miss on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014 at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville.

— A pair of Arkansas defensive backs have been suspended for the Texas Bowl.

Starting junior safety Rohan Gaines and senior cornerback Carroll Washington have been suspended for a violation of team rules, Arkansas coach Bret Bielema said Saturday. Bielema said Gaines could return for his senior season, while Washington has played his final game for the Razorbacks.

Gaines started 11 games, recording 59 tackles and returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown against Ole Miss. Freshman safety Josh Liddell, who started the Ole Miss game in place of Gaines, will start the Dec. 29 game against Texas.

Washington played in all 12 games and had 17 tackles.
