Future Hogs end HS careers with titles

Charleston quarterback Ty Storey pounds away yardage on his team's final drive to score the game-winning touchdown during their 3A state championship football game against Smackover on Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

A pair of future Arkansas football players ended their high school careers with state championships over the weekend.

Charleston quarterback Ty Storey and Junction City defensive end Jamario Bell helped their teams with the Arkansas Class 3A and 2A state titles, respectively.

In Friday night's game, Storey accounted for all but 17 yards of Charleston's offense, with 218 yards on 24-of-38 passing and 153 yards on 35 carries. He also scored five touchdowns - three through the air and two on the ground.

The Tigers won the game 33-26 over Smackover thanks to Storey's 4-yard touchdown pass with 17 seconds left. The play capped a 10-play, 55-yard drive in which the quarterback ran the ball nine times for 51 yards.

In Saturday night's game, Bell played offense and defense in Junction City's 38-6 win over Hazen, helping the Dragons extend their winning streak to 40 games and win their third straight state title.

He caught two passes for 11 yards - one on fourth down that extended a drive that led to a touchdown and one that went for a 3-yard touchdown - on offense and had two tackles on defense. Bell also caught a two-point conversion.

The touchdown reception was the 17th of his career, giving him the school record. He already held the school record for career receptions (52) and he finished second in career receiving yards (753).

Storey, who has signed a financial aid agreement, will join the Razorbacks later this month and participate in Arkansas' on-campus bowl game practice, while Bell will play basketball at Junction City before coming to Fayetteville after the spring semester.
