Tuesday recruiting tidbits

Offensive line prospect Jalen Merrick visited Fayetteville for Arkansas' game against No. 8 Ole Miss.

Arkansas offensive line target Jalen Merrick said he'll announce his college decison sometime between now and Jan. 5.

Merrick, 6-5, 310, 5.21 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., has more than 20 offers from schools that include Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Michigan State. He said he'll reveal his decision on Twitter.

Forward Dikembe Nixson, 6-7, 190 of Bardstown,(KY.) Nelson County said he's talking to Arkansas assistant coach T.J. Cleveland. He said the Hogs plan to watch him play soon.

He reports three offers from Cleveland St, Bradley and Marshall. In addition to Arkansas, he's drawing interest from Iowa State, West Virginia, Florida St., South Carolina, Texas Tech and St. Johns.

As reported on Sunday, Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema, offensive coordinator Jim Chaney, tight ends coach Barry Lunney. Jr and receivers coach Michael Smith did an in-home visit with North Little Rock receiver K.J. Hill and his family on Sunday. Alabama assistant coach Billy Napier visited Hill at the school on Dec. 9 and later met with his stepfather Montez Peterson and mother Diedra.

The dead period started on Monday and will last until Jan. 14. Coaches are allowed to call a prospect once a week during the dead period, but can't have face-to-face contact on and off campus. Recruits can call coaches 24/7.

Offensive lineman Toby Weathersby of Houston Westfield announced on Monday that he was reopening his recruiting after being committed to Texas since March. He's expected to visit the Hogs.

Offensive lineman George Madden of Blanchard, Okla. said he'll walkon at Arkansas as a long snapper.
