Scott named national athlete of the week

Arkansas junior Dominique Scott leads the pack around a turn in the women's mile during a dual meet against Texas on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville.
FAYETTEVILLE Arkansas' Dominique Scott was named the female national athlete of the week Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Scott won two races Friday during the Razorbacks' dual meet against Texas with times that currently lead the NCAA. The junior ran the mile in 4:38.49 and later anchored the 1600-meter leg for the distance medley relay team, which finished with a time of 11:25.58.
It was a strong start to the indoor season for Scott, who won the Southeastern Conference cross country individual championship in November and was named the league's runner of the year.
Arkansas is currently ranked No. 7 in the country and stands a good chance to move up in the polls following the dual meet win over No. 1 Texas. The Razorbacks return to the track next weekend for the Razorback Team Invitational.
