Bielema impresses highly regarded CB

Arkansas is hoping to ink CB Lamont Simmons.

Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema impressed highly sought cornerback Lamont Simmons during his official visit to Fayetteville over the weekend.

“He's funny and he's a cool guy and what I liked is that he could name a player and give you an bio about them,” Simmons said. “It's shows that he cares for his players.”

Simmons, 6-2, 175, 4.53, of Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines, has more than 20 scholarship offers, including Arkansas, Auburn, Southern California and Penn State. The former Rutger commitment had previously officially visited the Scarlet Knights and Auburn. Video highlight CLICK HERE

He experienced the passion of the Razorback fans.

“The fan base is wonderful,” said Simmons, who noted the trip helped Arkansas’ chances of landing him. “I really felt the love.”

Simmons, who was hosted by safety Rohan Gaines and quarterback Damon Mitchell, enjoyed talking to strength and conditioning coach Ben Herbert.

“Just talking to him and hearing what the players say about him, he really gets guys bigger, faster, and stronger,” Simmons said.

He plans to officially visit Penn State and Southern Cal on the last weekends before national signing day. Arkansas’ facilities are among the best Simmons has been able to see.

“It was great,” said Simmons, who was accompanied by his mother, Shantel Williams. “I've seen many different complexes and weight rooms and that's one of the best I've seen.”

Linebackers coach Randy Shannon is his lead recruiter.
