Arkansas easy decision for Floyd
University of Arkansas assistant coach Taver Johnson during media day Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013 at the Fred W. Smith Football Center in Fayetteville.
Cornerback Cornelius Floyd was sold on Arkansas after taking an official visit to Fayetteville on Jan. 17.
“It’s the only place I felt I wouldn’t have any regrets,” Floyd said.
Floyd, 6-1, 170, 4.49 seconds in the 40, of Miami Gulliver Prep chose the Hogs over about 20 scholarship offers, from the likes of Oklahoma, Wake Forrest, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Virginia and others.
He made his commitment public during an in-home visit Monday afternoon with Coach Bret Bielema and cornerbacks coach Taver Johnson.
His parents, Nelson and Andrey accompanied him on his Arkansas trip.
“Knowing that me and my parents agree on a place...and that's Arkansas,” Floyd said. “It’s what's best for me on and off the field.”
Floyd recorded 41 tackles, 12 pass breakups, 7 interceptions, a forced fumble and a recovered fumble this past season.
Bielema and Johnson were thrilled to hear him say he wanted to be uncommon.
“Coach B and Coach Johnson just went to hugging everybody,” Floyd said.
He said his parents were on board with his decision because of academics and being able to watch his games on TV.
“The respect and trust they have with the coaches and faculty,” said Floyd of what impressed his parents.
Floyd is looking forward to being coached by Johnson.
“The relationship we built along the way is very strong,” Floyd said. “He's been around the game for some time and I'm very bless to have him in my corner and learn more about the game and some tricks and trades to elevate my game.”
