Time out and tidbits

North Little Rock safety Tyler Phillips jumps 42.3 inches in the vertical during the SPARQ National Championship.

I start vacation today and will return the 20th. There will be content on the site throughout the week from The Opening at Nike Headquarters.

A few recruiting tidbits from the Opening:

Receiver Kemah Siverand of Cypress Ridge said he's firm in his commitment to Texas A&M and isn't considering any others visits. Arkansas was recruiting him.

Dumas tight end Will Gragg was a consistent target of Texas A&M quarterback commit Kyler Murray during the 7-on-7 competition. Most of Gragg's receptions were after Murray and other Vapor Carbon quarterbacks went through their progressions and dumped off to Gragg, who was one of the biggest targets at event.

North Little Rock receiver K.J. Hill showed he was one of the best wideouts after the catch during the three-day event. One of his receptions on Wednesday was selected the top play of the day.

He played with a broken jaw in the 7-on-7 championship game Thursday evening.

As reported during The Opening, North Little Rock safety Tyler Phillips received offers from Campbell and Air Force during the competition.

His third place finish in the SPARQ Championship where he recorded a 4.63 electronic time in the 40 yard dash, 3.97 shuttle, 42.3 vertical and a 43 foot power ball toss for a rating of 143.00 is helping attract more attention. California appears to be close to offering.

Not all, but some of the players who stood out-

Alabama receiver commit Calvin Ridley. He has excellent hands and the ability to get to top end speed in a hurry. He made play after play. Should be a star in college.

Quarterback Drew Lock, a Missouri commitment, impressed with his accuracy and poise.

Safety Tarvarus McFadden made several interceptions during the 7-on-7. His length and athletic ability makes it very difficult to throw over the top of him. His ball skills are excellent. Should be a star in college.

Cornerback Holton Hill is very long for his position and his athleticism allows him to smother the big or small receiver.

Defensive end Josh Sweat is extremely athletic for a guy that stands 6-4, 240. He ran a 4.46 in the 40. One those freakish athletes that appears in every class.

Receiver Christian Kirk showed outstsnding speed and the ability to create separation. He was always making plays.

Receiver Donte Jackson's speed just jumps out. He's been timed at 10.36 in the 100 and it shows up on the field.

Linebacker Roquan Smith had great instincts and the ability to break on the ball. He also had several interceptions.

Receiver Kirk Merritt is very physical playmaker. Very, very tough matchup for defensive backs.

Running back Soso Jamabo moves like a much smaller back. Very fast and elusive.

Safety Justin Dunning, a Texas A&M commit, was outstanding. He's a big safety with excellent range.

Non-Opening tidbits-

Athlete Deven Hammond of Port Allen, La. said he and Alabama receiver commitment Daylon Charlot of Patterson, La. will attend Arkansas' Elite Camp on July 24.

Cornerback DeShawn Raymond of Metairie, La. East Jefferson said he's looking to visit Arkansas on the 24th. Nothing is firm, but it looks promising.

Running back commitment Rawleigh Williams of Dallas Bishop Lynch said he's recruiting Gragg and Hill along with several others to Arkansas.
