Pair of Hogs named to watch lists

Arkansas linebacker Braylon Mitchell knocks the ball out of the hands of LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger Friday at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge.

— Arkansas' Trey Flowers and Braylon Mitchell were named to the Lombardi Award and Butkus Award watch lists, respectively, Monday morning.

The Lombardi Award watch list is Flowers' third preseason watch list to appear on, as he was also named to the Bednarik Award and Nagurski Trophy watch lists last week.

Last season, Flowers made 44 tackles for the Razorbacks, including a team-high 13.5 tackles for a loss. His play earned him second-team All-SEC honors.

Mitchell was tied for second on the team with 77 tackles in 2013. He also had one sack, three pass break ups, two quarterback hurries and one forced fumble.

The Lombardi Award is given to the best offensive/defensive lineman or linebacker in college football, while the Butkus Award is given to college football's best linebacker.

This is the seventh and eighth time an Arkansas player has been named to a watch list this month, after running backs Alex Collins and Jonathan Williams (Maxwell Award), tight end Hunter Henry (Mackey Award), punter Sam Irwin-Hill (Ray Guy Award) and Flowers (Bednarik Award and Nagurski Trophy).
