Arkansas still pursuing committed CB

Oklahoma State CB commit Jaylon Lane is still communicating with Arkansas DB coach Clay Jennings

— Arkansas defensive backs coach Clay Jennings hasn’t given up on trying to switch cornerback Jaylon Lane’s commitment from Oklahoma State to the Hogs.

“He’s still contacting me even though I’m committed to Oklahoma State,” Lane said. “It shows he still wants me to be a part of his program and really wants to recruit me.”

Lane, 6-1, 172, 4.47 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Nacogdoches, Texas approximately 30 scholarship offers, including Arkansas, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Missouri, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Ole Miss are some of the other offers. Video highlights CLICK HERE

He and Jennings stay in contact through social media.

“That really shows a coach that really wants you,” Lane said. “I realized when I committed some schools backed off and really didn’t contact me. But with him, he let me know he really wanted me.”

Lane, who’s rated a four-star recruit by ESPN and the No. 7 cornerback and No. 74 overall prospect in the nation, recorded 46 tackles and 5 interceptions as a junior. He doesn’t anticipate a visit to Arkansas, but left the door slightly open.

“I’m not too for sure because at the moment, I’m still rock solid with Oklahoma State,” Lane said. “But you never know what will happen in the process.”

A big reason for his pledge to Oklahoma State was cornerbacks coach Van Malone’s work with cornerback Justin Gilbert, who was a first round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns in this year’s NFL Draft.

“He did really good with him,” Lane said. “Ashton Lampkin, I know he’s going to be a possible prospect. He has a great chance go into the draft. There’s also another corner they have so I feel like I have a chance to go there and do really good. They’re only taking one corner in my class. The opportunity is there to get on the field early.”

Lane, who recorded a 4.35 pro-shuttle, 34-inch vertical and a 30 foot power ball toss at The Opening, said Jennings is very persuasion.

“I was close to going there,” Lane said. “The only thing lacking there was I didn't have a chance to visit, so I just want to see it first. I visited Oklahoma State when they played Kansas State that’s what helped out a lot.”
