Coaches and facilities impress Missouri receiver

2016 receiver Roddrick Bryant liked what he saw of Arkansas.

Arkansas impressed junior receiver Roddrick Bryant and his parents during an unofficial visit on Tuesday.

Bryant, 6-3, 180, 4.55 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of St. Louis Christian Brothers has a scholarship offer from Illinois while drawing interest from Arkansas, Florida State, Michigan, Auburn, Iowa, Iowa State and Nebraska. Video highlights CLICK HERE

He was able to bump into former teammate and Razorback freshmen offensive lineman Brain Wallace and spend time with offensive coordinator Jim Chaney and receivers coach Michael Smith during the four hour visit.

“Good people, they have a lot of background and a lot of experience,” Bryant said. “I checked out the facilities and like Brain said…my mind was blown. I love it up there. I checked out the training facilities. It just felt like a good place to be.”

As a sophomore, he recorded 26 receptions for 411 yards and 2 touchdowns in 8 games.

“They said they love my highlight (video) and they love me as a player,” Bryant said of Chaney and Smith. “They were saying as things progress and they’ll keep an eye on me and good things will happen in the future if I keep working.”

He and his parents liked how the stadium, football complex, weight room and the indoor and outdoor practice fields were close together and near the Academic Learning Center being constructed.

“They like that you can workout and you can go straight to doing your schoolwork,” said Bryant, who's been in communication with offensive line graduate assistant Eric Mateos. “It just helps out a lot. Everything flows well. My dad and I were talking about it.”

Bryant, whose father is a big Jerry Jones and Dallas Cowboy fan, wasn’t able to meet Coach Bret Bielema because the head Hog was in Bristol, Connecticut doing interviews with ESPN.

He would love to see an offer from the Razorbacks come his way.

“That would be amazing, my dad loves Arkansas,” he said. “I just started to get into them and now that I’ve visited and talked to the coaches. I really want to talk to the head coach, but coach Smith and the offensive coordinator, they’re just good people.”

Chaney’s coaching background that includes a stint with the St. Louis Rams was noticed by Bryant.

“He told me some words of wisdom and he seems like he knows what he’s talking about,” Bryant said. “He told me I could visit any college and Arkansas would be right up there with them.”

Tuesday’s visit likely won’t be the last trip Bryant makes to Fayetteville.

“We’re talking about catching a game or two,” Bryant said.
