Report: UA signee agrees to pro deal

Fort Smith Southside catcher Mark Clark watches as Bryant's Dalton Holt records a hit during a state playoff game May 17, 2014 in Conway.

— A baseball player who signed with Arkansas last fall has reportedly agreed to terms with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Mark Clark, an outfielder from Fort Smith Southside, signed with the organization Sunday, according to the Southwest Times Record. After not being drafted in the MLB Draft, Clark was signed by a Rays scout while playing summer baseball in Missouri, according to the report.

Clark signed a letter of intent with the Razorbacks last November, but had been encouraged earlier this summer to enroll in a junior college because of the high number of incoming players at Arkansas.

Clark batted .426 with 3 home runs and 31 RBIs as a senior at Southside, and was named to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette all-state team. He also played catcher in high school.
