Smith, who had posterior cruciate ligament surgery in February after suffering the injury in basketball, showed improved arm strength and received positive feedback from offensive coordinator Jim Chaney.

“They said I did pretty good,” Smith said. “It’s just more about getting healthy and making sure I’m more confident in my knee as I’m stepping and putting more into my throw. Coach Chaney said he liked what he saw and he said he’s going to get back in touch pretty soon.”

He’s also drawing interest from Wake Forest, Ole Miss, SMU and others.

Smith led Conway to a 9-3 record in Class 7A, the highest classification in Arkansas as a sophomore. He’s confident about the Wampus Cats’ chances for the upcoming season.

“I think we're going to be pretty good,” Smith said. “We've got our two running backs back, (Hog offensive tackle commitment) Colton Jackson and we lost a couple of offensive line guys. But, we've got some good ones coming in so I'm not too worried about them. We lost some guys on defense, but I think we will be alright.”

One of Smith’s favorite things to do outside of football is calf roping.

“During the season I really don’t do any of it,” Smith said with a chuckle. “During the summer and offseason, it’s kind of slowed down.”

Smith is the son of former Razorback defensive end Bryan Smith, who played for Coach Danny Ford in the mid-90’s. An offer from the Hogs would be big for Smith.

“It’s one of the places I would like to come play,” Smith said. “I mean the facilities are great. It’s in Arkansas. Friends and family, everybody are wanting me to be a Hog. I think It would be pretty cool to play here.”
