Cook 3-under through 12 holes in PGA debut

— Austin Cook shot a 3-under through 12 holes in the first round of the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis before play was suspended because of darkness Thursday.

Making his PGA Tour debut, Cook was even through eight holes, making one bogey and one birdie. Over his last four holes of the day, however, he birdied three times.

The performance puts him in the top 10, tied for ninth place with 13 players, including Phil Mickelson and Davis Love III.

Three other former Arkansas golfers are competing in the tournament.

Tag Ridings completed his first round with an even score and is tied for 66th, John Daly shot a 2-over 72 and is tied for 99th, and David Lingmerth shot a 7-over 77 and is tied for 151st.
