— Nicolas Echavarria shot a 7-under 65 at the Mexican Amateur on Sunday to win by 12 strokes.

The performance came after making a bogey and triple-bogey to start the day and finish his third round, which was shortened by weather Saturday.

It was also his best round of the tournament, after shooting 3-under, 4-under and 2-under in the first, second and third rounds, respectively.

“Everything was working for me this week,” Echavarria said. “I played crazy good to be honest and it feels really good to start my summer off like this.”

Echavarria led from start to finish and he ended the tournament with a score of 16-under.

Alvaro Ortiz, an incoming freshman, shot a 3-over to finish tied for eighth.
