Texas QB planning to attend Arkansas camp

Quarterback Brennen Wooten and his family visited Arkansas on Wednesday.

Highly regarded junior quarterback Brennen Wooten has an impressive list of scholarship offers going into the summer and he’s looking to add one from Arkansas.

Wooten, 6-2, 180 pounds, 4.73 seconds in the 40-yard dash, of Marble Falls, Texas, has scholarship offers from Kentucky, Clemson, TCU, Tulsa, Akron and Houston. He plans to attend the Razorbacks' Elite Camp on June 19. Video highlights CLICK HERE

He and offensive coordinator Jim Chaney have been talking.

“He told me I was one of the top guys they’re looking at,” Wooten said.

Wooten completed 236 of 374 passes for 3,080 yards, and 30 touchdowns while also rushing 67 times for 322 yards and 2 touchdowns last year.

“I’m a guy that’s a pocket passer that can escape if needed and can run if I need to I can extend a play,” Wooten said. “I pride myself on my footwork and my football IQ and knowing what to do in certain situations.”

His mother, father and brother will make the trip to Fayetteville.

“I’ll probably go to camp and probably hopefully meet up with Coach Chaney and get a tour type deal,” Wooten said. “We’ll see how that goes. It’s going to be a cool experience I think.”

Wooten credits his maturity throughout his sophomore season for all of the college interest and offers.

“I play in what’s arguably the best high school football state and my district is very tough,” Wooten said. “So I think they recognize that and I think I play with a lot of confidence and I’ve kind of shown what I’m all about. They like the tape.”

He attended an Oklahoma State camp Thursday at Belton, Texas. He plans to participate in an Oklahoma camp in Houston on June 13, and he will attend camps at Texas and TCU while an Alabama camp is also a possibility.

“You can’t really make a decision based on a coach,” said Wooten of a college decision. “Because you never know who’s going to be there. I just want to feel at home with the school and know I could stay there if a coach left. But I also want to have a real good relationship with my quarterback coach.”
