Top safety searching for right school

Safety Kahlil Haughton.

Highly recruited safety Kahlil Haughton, who plans to make an unofficial visit to Arkansas on Friday, is very detailed on what he desires in a school.

Haughton, 6-2, 180, 4.44, of Waco, (Texas) Midway has more than 20 scholarship offers from schools like Arkansas, Oklahoma, TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Duke. He hopes to have his decision by July so he can focus on the season.

“One thing is just the relationship you have with the coaches,” said Haughton, who’s being recruited by Hogs defensive backs coach Clay Jennings. “There are some that you talk to maybe once a month but with the Texas Tech coaches I talk to them all of the time. The Baylor coaches, the Oklahoma coaches, the Arkansas coaches, I talk to them all of the time on a daily basis.”

Haughton recorded 87 tackles, 2 interceptions, 13 pass breakups and forced fumble this past season. A winning program that develops players is also on his wish list.

“There are some schools they produce, they produce wins, they produce players,” Haughton said. “That’s something you definitely want to look at because you want to be one of those players that they can produce and build up and then be great.”

Sports medicine or health science are two majors that appeal to Haughton.

“Football doesn’t last forever,” Haughton said. “So whatever you do afterwards, you have to hope that degree can get you to where you want to be.”
