Thompson impresses Arkansas OC

Arkansas offensive coordinator Jim Chaney talks with quarterback Brandon Allen before the start of Saturday night's game at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Fla.

— Junior quarterback Skylar Thompson made a strong impression on Arkansas offensive coordinator and quarterback coach Jim Chaney during the Hogs’ Elite Camp last Thursday.

“He basically told me I was the number one guy on their board right now for the class of 2016 and they’re going to recruit me pretty hard,” Thompson said.

Thompson, 6-2, 188, 4.6 of Independence, (Mo.) Fort Osage High School has also attended camps at Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri. Video highlights CLICK HERE

He said Chaney wants to look at a few other quarterbacks at a July camp before deciding whether to offer him or not.

“That would be awesome, but that’s out of my control,” Thompson said. “If they want to offer me they can. I would love to have one, but it’s just take it day-by-day and hope for the best.”

As a junior, Thompson completed 106 of 186 passes for 1,451 yards, 19 touchdowns and rushed for 705 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was one of five well regarded quarterbacks at the camp.

“It was awesome, it was good to get out here with this type of competition and throw the ball around and have some fun,” Thompson said.

Smackover junior receiver Jordan Jones, who received an offer and committed to the Hogs, headlined a talented group of receivers at the camp.

“I don’t know their names, but there were some wide receivers they passed the eye test,” he said. “I guess you could say looking up to them like wholly crap. Those type of guys…it’s awesome to throw to. They make you look good and you can make them look good. It was definitely a good time out here.”

It was an overall good day, said Thompson.

“The coaching staff was great,” Thompson said. “The facilities are awesome. It was good to get out here and get some reps with these coaches.”
