Gunn signs with Red Sox

Arkansas relief pitcher Michael Gunn watches as a home run by Texas A&M third baseman Logan Nottebrok sails over the wall in left field during the 10th inning Sunday, May 11, 2014, at Baum Stadium.

— Former Arkansas pitcher Michael Gunn signed a professional contract with the Boston Red Sox on Friday.

Gunn was selected by the Red Sox in the 16th round of the MLB Draft earlier this month. He is the fifth and final former Arkansas player to sign professionally this summer.

Outfielder Tyler Spoon will return to the Razorbacks next season after being drafted in the 36th round by the Athletics.

As a junior Gunn set an Arkansas record by allowing only three earned runs in 28 relief appearances. The left-hander will join former teammate Jalen Beeks, a 12th round pick of the Red Sox, on the roster for Boston's short-season affiliate in Lowell, Mass.
