— Arkansas tight end Mitchell Loewen will miss spring practice after suffering a torn ACL, Razorbacks coach Bret Bielema said Wednesday.

Bielema said he's hopeful Loewen, a junior, would be available for Arkansas' season opener Aug. 30 at Auburn. Loewen caught 2 passes for 29 yards last season, including a 24-yard touchdown catch against Samford.

The Lahaina, Hawaii native began his career as a walk-on but earned a scholarship prior to last season. He is one of four tight ends with playing experience on the Razorbacks' roster.

Arkansas is scheduled to begin spring practice next Sunday.
