Arkansas shows the love to Stewart

Highland receiver Deon Stewart and his mother received handwritten letters from Arkansas on Monday.

Highland receiver Deon Stewart didn’t have to wait until he arrived home on Monday to know several schools, including Arkansas sent him mail.

“My mom had text me earlier in the day, probably around noon,” said Stewart, who received 15 handwritten letters from the Hogs. “She was telling me I got a bunch of mail. Some of the ones from Arkansas were for my mom.”

Stewart, 6-1, 163, 4.48 seconds in the 40 yard dash, received a scholarship offer from Arkansas during his visit to Fayetteville on March 8. He also has offers from Ole Miss, Louisville, Tulsa, Southern Miss and Arkansas State. Video highlights CLICK HERE

“I got home and there is a huge pile of letters from Arkansas,” Stewart said. “I sat down and opened each and everyone of them before I did anything else.”

He had a letter from Coach Bret Bielema and others on the staff.

“The Arkansas coaches were just telling me that they were glad I was able to come down on Junior Day and meet them and how they they would love to have me,” Stewart said.

Stewart recorded 36 receptions for 757 yards, 8 touchdowns and 27 rushes for 448 yards and 4 touchdowns as a junior. He said Bielema wanted him to visit again.

“He said how was great it was to get me down there and meet him,” Stewart said. “He said the next time I’m down there they can set up an academic day.”

The Arkansas letters have moved around the house.

“She wanted to keep them in her room,” said Stewart of his mother. “All the letters I get from schools I keep them in my closest and she was wanting to keep them in her room. So I came home today and she had taken them back to her room and I told her I was taking them to my room.”

Stewart said he’s looking for a school that will also show his mother attention in the recruiting process.

“It means a lot to me,” he said. “It’s great they’re writing me, but it’s also great that they’re writing to my mom.”’
