SEC and relationship has safety interested in Hogs

Clay Jennings was hired as Arkansas' defensive backs coach after spending six seasons at TCU.

Safety Kahlil Haughton, who has 17 scholarship offers, likes the SEC and ranks the Hogs high because of the top rated conference.

“I think they would be one of the higher teams on the list,” Haughton said.

Haughton, 6-2, 180, 4.44, of Waco, (Texas) Midway has 17 scholarship offers from schools like Arkansas, Oklahoma,TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Duke. He had a prior relaltionship with defensive backs coach Clay Jennings while he was at TCU.

“He’s a really cool,”Haughton said. “I haven’t seen him coach or anything but as far as a guy, he’s a great guy. He comes and check up on us. When he was at TCU he came and checked up on us probably a good five times or so. He’s definitely a guy that likes to be really social and cares about his guys.”

He recorded 87 tackles, 2 interceptions, 13 pass breakups and forced fumble this past season. He has visited Oklahoma, TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Duke and Texas.

Haughton isn’t in a rush to make his college decision.

“Right now, I’m still examining schools and try and figure out the pros and cons,” he said. “Where I fit the best for me and my family. I’m thinking sometime during the summer or before the season so I won;t have to deal with all of the distractions during the season.”

When he does decide on a school, Haughton will consider several things.

“Playing time, the environment,” Haughton said. “Like what I would be living in everyday whether or not I could see myself living there. I guess their facilities and how they run their practices and more in-depth stuff about that.”
