Denson keeps coaches on their toes
At some point during the recruiting process, high school prospects can become leery of college coaches and their sales pitches.
Running back Mon Denson is one those recruits who isn’t likely to fall prey to false promises.
“Some coaches can get on the phone and talk about how big their facilities are and how many title they’ve won,” Denson said. “But if you really look into the schools some of the coaches are just filling your head with stuff. If you don’t your research you’ll end up messing up your recruitment in the end.”
Denson, 5-11 1/ 2, 207 pounds, 4.44 seconds in the 40-yard dash, of LaGrange, Georgia has 12 scholarship offers, including Arkansas, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Georgia Tech and West Virginia. Video highlights CLICK HERE
He said Hog running backs coach Joel Thomas keeps things real with him.
“When I talk to a coach I get a feel for if they’re giving me BS or if they’re just being straight up,” said Denson in Sunday’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. “He’s that type of guy, he’s just being straight up with me.”
He called Thomas on Wednesday and was told of the offer from the Razorbacks.
“I was surprised, I thought he was joking,” Denson said.
Prior to his offer from the Hogs, he purchased a Razorback cap and told his father he wanted to visit Fayetteville.
“I’ll have to talk it over with my dad so I can get over there,” Denson said.
While growing up, Denson didn’t care for his name.
“My real name is DaQuarious, but I don’t like it,” Denson said. “It’s too long and I just don’t like the way it sounds. My middle name is Damon. I took Mon out of my middle name and just went with that for now. Everything I sign is Mon.”
“I’ve always told my parents when I get older, I’m going to change my name.”
