Arkansas came close to receiving a commitment from tight end Austin Cantrell after he was offered by the Hogs during a visit on Sunday.
“I’m going to wait and play things out and see how things go,” he said.
Cantrell, 6-3 1/2, 249, 4.58 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Roland, Okla. is receiving interest from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tulsa and Memphis. Central Oklahoma extended an offer on Friday. Video highlights CLICK HERE
He perviously made trips to Stillwater and Norman.
“Facilities wise, they were some of the best ones I’ve been in,” said Cantrell of Arkansas. “I like their weight room, the training table and all that’s very, very nice.”
The rich history of the Arkansas campus impressed him.
“It was really, really nice,” Cantrell said. “I liked the historic buildings. That was really cool to see. I like how they do the senior walk by engraving your name in the sidewalk.”
Cantrell gave the visit a big thumbs up.
“I like the fact that it’s only about an hour drive,” he said. “Something about it, just seems right. It’s kind of hard to explain.”
Cantrell recorded 41 rushes for 334 yards and 9 touchdowns while having 9 receptions for 268 yards, an average of 29.7 yards per catch. and 2 touchdowns as a junior. He’s seen an increase in his speed.
“I ran a 4.7 for awhile and Friday we tested on our 40’s,” Cantrell said. “I came out of nowhere with a 4.59. Coach said to run it again. So I ran a 4.58.”
His parents accompanied him on the visit and also liked what they experienced.
“My mom loved it, my dad’s on board with it,” Cantrell said. “He wouldn’t mind if I committed. I just think I need to hold out just little little longer and found out things about other schools so I know of that I made the right decision.”
